Gunnar Thor Thorarinsson is an Icelandic lawyer with an LLM degree from the London School of Economics, dually qualified to practice in Iceland and England. He specialises in banking and finance, corporate finance and capital markets, corporate law, financial restructuring and insolvency, M&A, and energy law.

Gunnar advised international clients in relation to investments in Iceland, in recent years most notably the bondholder groups of the failed Icelandic banks in relation to the restructuring of the Icelandic financial system, directly participating in negotiations between the international creditors of the estates of the banks and the Icelandic authorities, representing holders of claims of up to EUR 20 billion, securing the successful settlement of the old banks late 2015. Gunnar has since continued to act for various international investors in relation to their investments in Iceland as well as Icelandic investors looking to invest abroad. Most recently, Gunnar has acted for international funds in relation to the financing of a take-over bid of a listed company in Iceland, mezzanine financing for the construction of Marriott Edition in Reykjavik, and bond issuance of an Icelandic pharmaceutical company.
