Career

Adam joined the Maples Group in 2009 and was elected as a partner in 2012. Prior to joining Maples, he worked in the investment funds group of another leading Irish law firm, including a secondment to the London office of a global investment bank. Since joining Maples, he spent 2 years establishing and heading the Irish funds team based in the firm's Cayman Islands office. Since 2018, he has also established and heads the Irish funds team based in the firm's London office.

Adam is recognised as a leading lawyer in Irish financial services and is recommended/ highly regarded in this year's Chambers Global, Legal 500 and IFLR rankings.

Memberships

Adam is an active industry participant. He represents the firm on a number of industry working groups including Irish Funds' Brexit steering group, and is a previous member of their Hedge Funds, UK Distribution and AIFMD Working Groups. Adam is a regular contributor to international fund publications and journals, and is a frequent speaker at various industry conferences on matters such as ILP reform, Brexit and ESG/ SFDR.

Position

Adam is a partner of Maples and Calder's Funds & Investment Management team in the Maples Group's London office.  He heads the Irish team in the firm's London office, where he primarily advises UK and European asset managers on the structuring, establishment and operation of Irish fund products. Adam has broad experience advising on a wide spectrum of Irish regulated UCITS and AIFs with a particular focus on the alternatives space, including hedge funds, liquid and private credit funds, private equity funds, managed account platforms, direct lending/ loan origination funds, real asset/ infrastructure funds and master-feeder structures. He has advised on all types of Irish fund vehicles including ICAVs, unit trusts, CCFs, investment companies, and most recently he advised on the very first investment limited partnership (ILP) to be authorised by the Central Bank under the revised legislative framework.

Aside from fund vehicles, Adam's expertise extends to the establishment and operation of Irish regulated AIFMs, UCITS management companies, "super-mancos", MiFID investment firms and unregulated 1907 Act limited partnership and SPV structures.  His practice also covers the governance, financing, cross-border distribution, management and relocation/ redomiciliation of such entities into and out of Ireland, as well as the impact of wider regulatory initiatives such as compliance with the EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulations ("SFDR") and Taxonomy Regulations.
