Sunny is a Partner and National Practice Group Leader of both the Firm's Technology group and the Firm's Communications Law group. He has a substantial practice in mergers & acquisitions of technology companies and also advises clients on transactional and regulatory matters relating to information technology and electronic commerce, intellectual property, communications (telecommunications and broadcasting), biotech and defence. Sunny is also a well-recognized cyber breach coach and leads organizations through three stages of cybersecurity: cyber preparedness, incident response and post breach resolution work. Sunny works closely with boards and leadership teams across various Canadian companies and organizations in guiding them through the complex challenges of dealing with cyber-attacks and risk mitigation. Sunny is widely published in legal literature and has authored and co-authored many books on information technology, communications law, copyright law and business.

Christine heads the firm’s National Technology Group and co-heads its Fintech Group. Christine’s practice focuses on commercial transactions involving technology, data and intellectual property. She is frequently sought in relation to digital transformation and collaborative innovation deals, involving novel technologies (including AI and blockchain). In the past several years, Christine has increasingly focused on data driven commercial arrangements that involve bilateral data sharing, data licensing, big data analytics and AI. She has had over two decades of experience in a wide variety of complex commercial arrangements having technology at their core, including outsourcing, systems and software acquisitions, systems and software development, licensing, various ASP and SAAS arrangements, complex services agreements and distribution/reseller agreements. Jessica is a senior lawyer who leads a team based in our Legal Services Centre in Halifax that provides a suite of new service offerings that rely on process and technology efficiencies to deliver client value. She also advises clients on technology acquisitions, technology and data licensing, procurement, outsourcing, cloud service-provider arrangements, and various transactions dealing with a broad spectrum of emerging tech such as blockchain and AI. Jessica brings a uniquely in-depth client perspective to her role; prior to joining Torys, she worked at The Toronto-Dominion Bank for over 10 years, advising senior executives on complex technology-related deals, as well as on enterprise policies, standards and protocols relating to third-party risk management and cloud computing. Jessica is also a member of the Data Governance and Strategy Group and advises clients on data-related issues such as data protection, governance and commercialization.
