Damon So is dual qualified in law and engineering, having started his professional life as a chartered civil and structural engineer. He subsequently qualified as a lawyer, and is now a partner in the Construction and Engineering practice of Hogan Lovells. Damon is a rare breed of lawyer who has done a large volume of both contentious and non-contentious work and understands the needs of both commercial and litigious clients. His contentious work includes litigation and arbitration, acting for statutory bodies, employers, contractors, consultants and insurers, in respect of building and civil projects, and in commercial disputes. His non-contentious work includes advising and drafting construction, consultancy, and other related contracts for employers, contractors, and consultants in respect of a number of building and civil projects using different forms of contract including the HKIA form, FIDIC, NEC3, IChemE, Australian Standard Form, Hong Kong Government forms, and standard forms of major statutory bodies in Hong Kong. He is the Honorary Legal Advisor to the American Society of Civil Engineers, Kwong Yuet Tong, the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers, the Professional Green Building Council, and the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design.

Geoffrey Chan

Geoffrey Chan is a partner of Mayer Brown. He has extensive experience in all aspects of contentious construction work in terms of legal proceedings, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution in Hong Kong, China and Macau. He advises on town-planning and building law and is highly experienced in advising on numerous construction contract claims, construction negligence claims and claims involving environmental issues. He also advises clients on labour importation issues by the Legco Select Committee. Geoffrey is ranked in Chambers Asia Pacific (2015-2018) and is named a Leading Individual by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2017 and 2018). Menachem Hasofer is a partner of Mayer Brown and Co-Leader of the firm’s International Arbitration practice. He is experienced in litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution with an emphasis on handling documents-intensive disputes arising from building construction and infrastructure projects.Menachem advises companies on records retention and management, including storage and retrieval of electronically stored information and e-discovery. He is a co-author of chapters on international litigation and arbitration in Electronic Discovery Deskbook, published by Practising Law Institute, and was an active member of the Hong Kong Judiciary’s working group for the Practice Direction for an e-Discovery Pilot Scheme published in 2014.Menachem also has significant experience in public/administrative law cases, particularly in representing Hong Kong land owners and NGOs in judicial review proceedings concerning town planning, environmental and land lease decisions. Alfred is a dispute resolution lawyer based in Hong Kong. Alfred handles an extensive range of general commercial litigation and arbitration. He advises clients on corporate finance, M&A, funds, joint venture, shareholders, property and employment disputes, as well as insolvency and restructuring matters. His arbitration experience includes both domestic and international arbitration. Clients he has represented include banks, Hong Kong listed issuers, multinational corporations, funds, accountants/liquidators and high-net-worth individuals.
