He heads up the Dentons Commercial Dispute Resolution practice in Scotland. He has almost 30 years of experience in handling commercial disputes. Tim is an accredited specialist in professional negligence by the Law Society of Scotland.

Partner Will is a Partner in our Commercial Dispute Resolution team based in our Edinburgh office. He is an a experienced litigator, an accredited mediator and a qualified arbitrator.  He specialises in helping clients develop and implement strategies for resolving disputes, often with international aspects. Will has acted in numerous important reported property cases over the course of his career.  He brings the knowledge and experience to his role heading up our Property Litigation team. Will also has a particular interest in sports law, having previously acted on secondment as the Scottish FA’s first ever independent Compliance Officer, personally prosecuting numerous football disciplinary cases before independent tribunals.  He heads up our Sports Law Team and continues to act for the Scottish FA in litigation and arbitration matters. Will has the skills to deal with sensitive, business critical matters, and has acted in many significant pieces of commercial litigation for businesses, public and third sector organisations, and individuals.  Reported cases cover areas such as competition law, arbitration, share purchase agreement warranties, unfair prejudice, insurance coverage, commercial contracts, and title conditions. Clients praise Will’s ability to cut though details and clearly explain the technicalities of disputes and procedure, as well as his personable, forthcoming, and pragmatic approach.

Simon Catto

Simon is head of the dispute resolution team in Scotland and a solicitor advocate. He regularly handles complex and high value cases in both Sheriff Court and the Court of Session with a particular focus on commercial, contractual, insolvency and sports related disputes. Simon specialises in the full range of commercial, contractual and insolvency disputes. His clients range from insolvency practitioners, banks and public limited companies to small privately owned companies and partnerships. Clients also include UK football clubs and professional sportsmen in the fields of football and athletics. Simon is the appointed solicitor member of the board of the Scottish Court Service. He is also a member of the firm’s Scottish and UK managing boards.

Partner Sandy heads the firm's Dispute Resolution practice, and acts in a range of complex and high value litigations. He has particular expertise in corporate and shareholder litigation, as well as disputes in the banking and financial services, healthcare, energy and construction sectors. Sandy also regularly advises clients in procurement, competition and professional negligence claims. As well as his prominent practice in the commercial court of the Court of Session, Sandy has acted in numerous appeals to the United Kingdom Supreme Court. Sandy has a substantial public law practice and has extensive experience of advising the firm’s private and public sector clients in judicial review proceedings and statutory appeals involving questions of administrative law. In addition to his litigation expertise, Sandy has a strong track record of resolving high value disputes through mediation, arbitration and expert determination.

He has represented clients in relation to various IT/IP related disputes including trade mark and patent infringement, outsourcing, domain name and IT supplier disputes.Iain has also acted for banks and financial services institutions in relation to high profile and high value professional negligence, misrepresentation, contractual and pensions disputes and has acted in a wide variety of corporate litigation including warranty claims, unfair prejudice petitions and related shareholder disputes.Iain is a Solicitor Advocate and his practice is primarily in the UK Courts. He is, however, an enthusiastic proponent of alternative dispute resolution, with recent experience of mediation, international arbitration (IT, Oil & Gas, international trade) and expert determination (both financial and technical).

Elaine is a partner in commercial litigation, primarily focusing on commercial, financial and property related disputes. She has vast experience in the Court of Session, Sheriff Courts, Land Court and Lands Tribunal, and works closely with our real estate and banking teams. Elaine's work includes groundbreaking property litigation, including the cases on dilapidations and extraordinary repairs under a commercial lease, and a recent case for damages in relation to the encroachment by a major house builder into neighbouring land; a major litigation involving breach of warranty claims in a sale of a business, and the resulting professional negligence claim against solicitors; leading the team involved in complex pension litigation in relation to equalisation of rights; and a long running case involving an oil rig where claims exceed $65m, acting with our banking team she brought the first case of its kind in Scotland where an administration order was made in respect of a non-UK company with heritable assets in Scotland.

John MacKenzie

John is a partner, head of the firm’s UK-wide commercial litigation practice and an experienced solicitor advocate. He deals with a range of commercial litigation and has particular expertise in intellectual property and IT matters. He has rights of audience before the Scottish and English courts, appearing regularly before the Court of Session and the Scottish Appeal Court, and is one of the few solicitor advocates to have appeared before the General Court of the Court of Justice of the European Union. John advises on IP infringement issues and in particular online brand protection for clients from a variety of sectors, UK-wide, including energy and utilities, banking, IT and manufacturing. He has considerable experience in leading and managing high value claims backed by third party litigation funders. He sits on the Lord President’s Consultative Committee on Commercial Actions. He sits on the ADR Committee of the International Trademark Association and on the Lord President’s Consultative Committee on Commercial Actions in Scotland.
