Daniel Tan

Daniel Tan’s main areas of practice are banking & financial disputes, with a particular focus on cross-border restructuring and insolvency. He regularly advises and represents corporate debtors, institutional creditors and turnaround professionals in special situations. His practice also encompasses shareholders’ disputes, corporate fraud, asset recovery and investigations. Daniel is a regular tutor for the insolvency and professional skills modules and an advocacy trainer in the preparatory course for the Singapore Bar Examinations run by the Singapore Institute of Legal Education.

Lauren is a partner at Virtus Law and is an experienced commercial litigator with a focus on restructuring and insolvency. Her highlights include advising and assisting one of the first foreign companies in successfully obtaining a scheme moratorium after the 2017 amendments to the Singapore Companies Act (Cap.50) (which resulted in the first reported judgment on the requirements of a scheme moratorium); representing a major secured lender on the collapse of a well-known Singapore oil trader (Hin Leong Trading); advising on one of the first pre-pack schemes approved under section 71 of Singapore's Insolvency, Restructuring and Dissolution Act since it came into effect in July 2020; and acting for the agent bank of a syndicate of banks in the restructuring of the obligations of a business trust through the placing of its trustee manager under a scheme of arrangement, which was the first of its kind. She has also acted for a global freight forwarder in a complex Singapore High Court matter involving allegations of breach of duty of care; acted for a Singapore public listed company and its subsidiary in a complicated vessel-related dispute and acted for a cryptocurrency purchaser against a distributor in a successful SIAC arbitration. Lauren has appeared at all levels of the Singapore courts, including the Court of Appeal and also has been involved in SIAC/ HKIAC / LMAA arbitrations. Lauren is qualified in practise in Singapore and England & Wales.

Sarjit Singh Gill has extensive experience in a broad range of litigation and arbitration matters, with a special focus on corporate and commercial disputes, banking-related disputes, shareholders’ disputes, professional negligence and fraud. He also has an active international arbitration practice, having been involved in a significant number of complex arbitrations in Singapore and abroad. Notably, Sarjit has acted both for and against Indian parties in international arbitration matters. With more than 40 years of experience, Sarjit is also involved in many domestic and cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters, some of which are significant and high profile in nature. His clients include insolvency practitioners (liquidators, judicial managers, administrators, etc), accounting firms, financial institutions and non-bank creditors. Sarjit is a board member of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore and the Urban Redevelopment Authority, non-executive director of Heliconia Capital Management Pte Ltd and has served on the Board of the Central Provident Fund from 2012 to 2018. He is a member of the Life Imprisonment Review Board, The President's Pleasure Review Board, Long Imprisonment Review Board and MAS Appeal Advisory Panel.
