Rose is a trusted adviser to a number of high profile business families. She specialises in working with these families and their advisers to create bespoke wealth preservation structures which will withstand external attacks. She is particularly experienced in family governance, asset protection and defensive structuring. Rose also sets up and advises on family office structures and has considerable experience in drafting family constitutions. Recent examples of Rose’s work include: Creating a dynastic trust structure for a Middle Eastern business family which incorporated best practice governance principles at all levels of the structure. Rose designed the Bahamas Executive Entity, which was enshrined in legislation in 2012, to hold the shares of the private trust company and act as the supervisory body of this structure. Rose also advised on a family office and overarching family constitution. The level of governance included in this structure helped to improve the credit rating of the underlying business. Creating family governance structures for families in the UK, Switzerland and further afield in Asia and Latin America. Carrying out a risk review of several complex trust structures set up by Russian business associates, which highlighted areas of potential vulnerability and recommended both immediate and longer term fortifications to the structures. Much of his work is focused on UK resident and domiciled families interested in the long term preservation of inter-generational wealth. He helps with the mitigation of capital taxes through the use of suitable lifetime gifting strategies and the creation of Trusts and other asset structures. James also advises on the preparation of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
