Corporate Social Responsibility at Arthur Cox
At Arthur Cox, we have worked very hard on the design and implementation of our Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) policy. The CSR aspect of our practice is one of the key components of the way we do business. Our CSR policy is made up of four main pillars – pro bono work, volunteering, charitable activities, and the environment. The policy is overseen and implemented by our CSR Committee in Northern Ireland.
The founder of our firm, Arthur Cox, was a well-known philanthropist. From our beginnings, almost 100 years ago, we have always incorporated this ethos into the running of our business.
In 2019 the firm partnered with The Fostering Network as its charity of the year in Northern Ireland and this has been a rewarding partnership. Arthur Cox staff have volunteered at Fostering Network away days, delivered a curriculum vitae and interview skills workshop to fostered children and hosted a number of successful fundraising events for the charity. The firm also partnered with Madlug, a community interest company dedicated to benefitting children in care, purchasing ethically manufactured rucksacks for distribution to the Fostering Network.
Arthur Cox is a leading member of Business in The Community Northern Ireland (“BITC”) with staff representation at board and committee level. We are highly engaged in multiple third sector programmes through the organisation.
Arthur Cox trainee solicitors also participate in our project work in Zambia each year, where the focus is to build radio schools in conjunction with the Canisius Secondary School (one of the earliest and most respected centres of learning in Zambia) to improve access to and the quality of education for local children.
Other CSR activity includes volunteering at a local animal sanctuary, mentoring young entrepreneurs in conjunction with Young Enterprise Northern Ireland and hosting a “Legal Pursuit”, giving 6th form students access into the day-to-day working life of a solicitor.
Inclusion and Diversity
At Arthur Cox, we are committed to creating, developing and nurturing an inclusive and diverse workplace where individuals are valued and supported. We recognize that diversity means treating people as individuals so it is our mission to ensure everyone feels welcome, at ease and supported at all times.
We endeavour to create an inclusive and diverse work environment because it is the right thing to do. In a diverse workplace people are encouraged and inspired to reach their full potential all the while making the firm stronger and better.
We concentrate on developing and implementing policies and initiatives that welcome, promote, and encourage while respecting the varying approaches and perspectives different identity groups bring to our workplace.
It is our objective to develop innovative initiatives to foster the growth and development of our inclusive work environment helping to promote diversity and prevent discrimination.
