Career

Bernard Beerens has a wealth of knowledge in banking and finance as well as corporate and M&A matters. Bernard advises multinational clients, including major private equity firms, hedge funds and unregulated real estate funds, and high-net-worth individuals on the structuring and financing of international transactions, mergers and acquisitions, the formation of joint venture vehicles, corporate structures and re-organisations, exit strategies, and corporate governance matters. He focuses on complex commercial legal aspects to determine the best way to structure and restructure his clients’ businesses. He also provides expert advice on financing activities, emphasizing on financial, banking, structuring and restructuring transactions. In addition, Bernard represents lenders and borrowers in all types of financing transactions and advises on collateral arrangements, financial instruments, and related transactional documents. He pens articles on M&A, corporate, and banking and finance topics, which are published regularly in legal journals.

Education

Bernard holds a master's degree in law from the Université catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve (2002). He also studied at the University of Studies of Milan (2002) and obtained a certificate of completion for additional courses on Luxembourg law (CCDL) from the University of Luxembourg (2003). Before joining Stibbe in 2020, Bernard worked as a corporate and finance lawyer at the Luxembourg office of a UK-based law firm and at a Dutch law firm where he headed the Luxembourg desk of the corporate and finance department in New York from 2008 to 2009. After having established his own firm in 2010, Bernard later joined and headed the Luxembourg office of a Benelux law firm in 2016.
