Barbara Mutsaers is an attorney-at-law and Industry Leader Food & Life Sciences at AKD. She specialises in commercial contracting, litigation and regulatory matters related to pharmaceuticals, food, medical devices and other (consumer) products. She advises and litigates on contractual and on regulatory matters, providing national and international companies with strategic legal assistance. Her expertise includes:

Commercial contracts - drafting and negotiating various agreements, including manufacturing, supply, distribution, agency, collaboration and R&D agreements Sector-specific legislation – interpreting and applying regulatory frameworks Product regulation & regulatory compliance – which includes for example advising on market access, clinical trials, recalls, claims, inducements and advertisement compliance as well as handling disputes and discussions with supervisory bodies such as the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), Skal, and the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) Liability and disputes – advising on and resolving conflicts regarding the conclusion, execution, and termination of commercial agreements and/or torts.

Barbara’s clients value her strategic insights, dedication and drive. Her legal expertise and dedication have also been recognized with the European Legal Award, which she has won in the area of food law and pharmaceutical law.

Barbara is also an editorial board member of ‘Waar & Wet’ (Commodities and Law) and an active participant in various professional associations, including the Dutch Food Law Association (NVLR) and the Dutch Pharmacy and Law Association. She regularly lectures and publishes on legal developments within her specialist field.
