Position

Rogier is dedicated to international commercial arbitration. He is co-practice head at Van Doorne.

Rogier acts as lead counsel, expert and arbitrator on, primarily, M&A, joint-venture and investment claims (Dutch and foreign seated). Rogier also works as co-counsel. He is particularly active in the Energy, Life Sciences and Technology sectors.

Career

Rogier graduated Law & Economics (University of London) and Civil Law (University of Leiden). In 2011, Rogier was seconded to Royal Philips Electronics.

Work highlights

Rogier specialized in arbitrated matters from 2002 onwards. He contributed to many landmark cases, including IMS/Modsaf, the Achmea-case and the Bahgat/Egypt matter. He also acts for many states, including with great success for Indonesia, and he is currently opposite other states for investors under BIT-matters. His practices includes multiple on-going set-aside cases.

Publications

Rogier has a solid academic record, with a focus on evidence and emergency and fast-track arbitration. He has also published on the usage of arbitration rules (including LCIA, DIS and ICC) under the Dutch Arbitration Act; the IBA country guide for the Netherlands; and the Max Planck Institute's notes on NAI arbitration. He is also a guest-lecturer at various universities. Rogier co-chairs the international ICC Working Group on Expedited Arbitration.

Memberships

In 2021, Rogier completed a second term as court member at the ICC Court of Arbitration. He also contributed to the Advisory Council of the NAI (for about 10 years). Currently, Rogier is active on the IBA and ICC's Arbitration Committees (chairing the Dutch ICC Committee until September 2022). He further contributed to the NAI Rules drafting committee for the 2024 NAI Rules and sits on the DIS Arbitration Council.
