Career

Eric was appointed a director of Werksmans in 1993 and is currently the joint head of the firm’s Insolvency, Business Rescue & Restructuring practice group. Dr. Levenstein has been appointed Chairman of The South African Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners Association (SARIPA) in January 2019; member of SARIPA's Business Rescue Liaison Committee; appointed Board Member of INSOL International (a worldwide group of Insolvency Practitioners (INSOL)) for a period of two years (November 2018 to November 2020); appointed Chairman of the INSOL Small Practice Members Issues Committee for a period of two years (June 2017 to June 2019). The committee is a working group of international lawyers, accountants and insolvency practitioners with a focus on cutting edge issues involving insolvency, rescue and liquidation issues. Eric is also an author of the South African Business Rescue Procedure (published in October 2017 by Lexis Nexis).

Memberships

He is a member of the South African Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners Association (SARIPA) and its Restructuring & Business Rescue and Government Liaison Committee; INSOL, a worldwide group of insolvency practitioners and attorneys and its Small Practice Issue Committee. He is also a member of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces.

Education

Eric holds a BCom from the University of KwaZulu-Natal; a LLB and higher diplomas in company law and tax from the University of the Witwatersrand; an LLD – Doctorate of Laws – Business Rescue, University of Pretoria (2016); and a diploma in Insolvency Law from the University of Johannesburg.
