Position

Ernest Mazansky is a director of Werksmans (Pty) Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Werksmans Inc, and heads the firm’s Tax practice group. He specialises in corporate tax planning; restructuring of corporate entities; share incentive schemes;dispute resolution/tax controversy; offshore structures & financing; exchange control; VAT; estate planning; and wills & trusts (local and international).

Career

Ernest joined Werksmans in 2002 to head up its newly formed Tax practice group. He is highly recommended as a tax lawyer in the World Tax 2014 rankings and named as a leading specialist in international, tax and trusts & estates by Best Lawyers International. He is also ranked as a leading lawyer in tax by Chambers Global “The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business” and in corporate tax by the International Who’s Who Legal. Ernest is further named as a leading lawyer in the 2014 edition of the IFLR1000/Petroleum Economist Energy & Infrastructure Guide. He is the South African correspondent of the Bulletin for International Taxation published by the IBFD and a co-author of the chapter on trusts in Silke on International Tax. He is also the author of the South African chapter of The Delicate Balance – Tax Discretion and the Rule of Law, published by the IBFD.

Ernest is past chairman of the Taxation Committee of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants; Chairman of the Institute’s Exchange Control Committee; South African correspondent for the Bulletin for International Taxation, published by the IBFD; and is a member of the Institute’s Exchange Control Committee.

Education

Ernest completed BCom and BAcc degrees and a Higher Diploma in Tax Law at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is also a registered CA (SA).
