The firm: Initially created as a law office in 1997 by Mr George Serban, one of the pioneers and promoters of the business law craft in Romania after the post-communist era, Serban & Asociatii combined ever since its establishment the know-how and expertise of its founder with the professional dedication of an enthusiastic team of more than 23 lawyers. Mr George Serban is the founding partner of Serban & Asociatii. After completion of his studies at the Law School of Bucharest University he has worked as judge and as prosecutor within different courts in Romania (1984-1991). After this date, Mr George Serban worked in the private area in association with Romanian and foreign attorneys and consultants, providing legal consultancy, assisting and representing various foreign investors (and their representatives) mainly during criminal law affairs in Romania, projects of privatisations, acquisitions. In 1997, Mr Serban established his own law office and in 2003 he established Serban, Mares & Asociatii which later became Serban & Asociatii. His major area of expertise includes criminal law of affairs, privatisations, mergers and acquisitions, commercial law etc.

Now, the law firm comprises a team of 15 attorneys that are specialised in a broad range of white-collar crimes, such as: fraud, embezzlement, copyright infringement, money laundering, forgery, tax evasion, corruption crimes, crimes against the financial interests of the EU, computer hacking, credit card frauds, smuggling as well as corporate criminal liability resulting from health and safety law violations (eg explosions, labor safety crimes, environment pollution etc), yet also traffic offences/crimes: body injury by fault, murder by fault etc.

The daily activities of the criminal law team within Serban & Asociatii are usually related, on one hand, to providing sound representation for clients before the courts and prosecutors’ offices, at all tier levels, including High Court of Cassation and Justice, National Anticorruption Directorate and Directorate for Combating Organised Criminality and Terorrism and, on the other hand, to providing top-notch consultancy services, as well as conducting compliance and prevention programs for various clients.
