Career

Alon Bachar is a partner in the firm’s Corporate and Securities Group.

As a veteran of 27 years in public service, of which the last 11 were spent leading complex regulatory agencies, Alon has gained unique managerial and legal skills. In his last position, Alon was the highest legal official in all matters of personal data regulation in Israel encompassing privacy, data cyber security, data analysis, legal uses, and data applications. In his various positions, Alon maintained chief executive level leadership in the Israeli civil service and acted as the prominent regulator in fields spanning from economic to technological sectors, and participated in numerous government commissions regarding technology, digitization and cyber in Israel. Alon initiated and led major legal, technological, and administrative reforms that impacted the Israeli economy on a national scale. He was commended as an innovator, creative thinker, and result-oriented leader with a proven track record of delivering effective reforms by way of legislation, inter-sectorial, and international cooperation and bridging government and business interests. Alon is well recognized as a top expert for privacy, data protection, and cyber regulation in Israel and abroad.

Prior to joining the firm, Alon headed the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority for six years. He was also a Commissioner in the Israel Securities Authority and the head of the Israeli Corporations Authority.

Alon is a Lieutenant Colonel, Res. in the IDF JAG corps and officiated in a variety of roles, including prosecutor, defender, and, later on, judge in military courts.

Alongside his professional work, Alon is engaged in public and social activity as a member of the Management Forum of "ENOSH – The Israeli Mental Health Association", a member of the Steering Committee of the "Social Directors Team" Initiative, a senior fellow of the "National Digital Leaders Forum" and a member of the "National Council for Digital Health and Innovation" in the Healthcare System. He was also a member of numerous government and national committees.

In addition, Alon was an Adjunct Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Faculty of Law and at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya.
