Position

Ruud Brunninkhuis, lawyer at BUREN, is an expert in (international) restructurings and insolvencies. He advises and litigates on (imminent) insolvencies, restructurings, Dutch scheme proceedings, distressed transactions, financing, directors' liability issues and in shareholder disputes. Ruud also specializes in corporate law and high-end debt collection and all means to this end, such as attachment of assets of the debtor. In addition, Ruud acts regularly as bankruptcy trustee. He is also available for appointments as a restructuring expert (herstructureringsdeskundige) and observer (observator) in Dutch Scheme proceedings

Education

After an exchange at Columbia Law School in New York City, Ruud graduated as a lawyer and economist from the University of Amsterdam. Ruud successfully completed the INSOLAD/Grotius specialization course in Insolvency Law in December 2015. In mid-2018, he successfully completed the Financial Economics for Insolvency Lawyers course. He regularly publishes and lectures on current developments in the area of (international) restructuring and insolvency Ruud is particularly knowledgeable about the rules and case law in the field of the Act on the Confirmation of Private Plans (the Dutch Scheme or WHOA, its Dutch acronym).
