Kenji Okano-Heijmans, a Dutch qualified lawyer at BUREN, was admitted to the Dutch Bar in 2011. Kenji coordinates legal services for Japanese clients in the European Market. He focuses his practice in the area of trade law, corporate law and employment law.
Klaas van der Graaf, partner and lawyer at BUREN, specialises in commercial contracting and commercial litigation, with over 10 years of experience acquired both in private practice and as an inhouse counsel for a large automotive company. Klaas supports clients with the full breadth of their sales and procurement activities, including negotiating and concluding agency and distribution agreements, framework agreements, general terms and conditions, platform compliance and advertising, in a pragmatic and business minded manner. His expertise extends to dealings with regulatory bodies. Additionally, Klaas has significant expertise in the field of consumer law and EU law related to emerging technology, product liability and the sale of goods. As an experienced litigator, Klaas has successfully represented clients in numerous proceedings before the Dutch courts (first instance, appeal, and summary proceedings), as well as in arbitration and mediation proceedings. Laurens Prickartz, lawyer, specialises in insolvency law and corporate law. He also advises and conducts legal proceedings on various corporate law issues, including directors' liability, commercial contracts and financing and collateral. He also advises on bankruptcies and the lead-up to this. Furthermore, his work includes advising on restructuring. In addition, the courts regularly appoint Laurens as a receiver in bankruptcy cases. He is also actively involved in bankruptcies where other Buren staff have been appointed as receivers.
Martijn Vermeeren’s, managing partner and lawyer, practice includes insolvency law and corporate law. He advises various companies on such matters. He is involved as an adviser, administrator and receiver in the settlement of insolvency cases, acquisitions and disputes about leases, real estate and corporate law. Martijn has been involved in the settlement of complex bankruptcies as the receiver for Miss Etam and the Ruwaard van Putten Hospital. Martijn has also been involved in complex insolvency cases such as V&D, Mexx and MS Mode.
Martijn van der Vliet, partner and lawyer at BUREN, specializes in financial law. Paul A. Josephus Jitta, partner and lawyer, specializes in (inter)national corporate law. He mainly advises national and international companies on (cross-border) M&A transactions. He also litigates on corporate law and trade disputes, often on the termination of international joint ventures and partnerships. Paul, who is also the honorary consul of Ecuador in Amsterdam, is co-head of BUREN’s Latin America desk. Paul was one of the initiators of the Cancun case in 2009, an inquiry that led to groundbreaking case law of the Supreme Court in 2014 on directors’ and officers' liability in joint ventures. Paul graduated in 1993 in Dutch law from the University of Amsterdam, having taken minors at the University of Salamanca, Spain. In 2000 he completed the Business Law specialization course at Erasmus University.
Peter van Dijk, partner, lawyer and tax lawyer at BUREN, specializes in assisting foreign investors or Dutch-based internationally operating groups. He has a special focus on Germany, CEE and Japan. Furthermore, his expertise is assisting internationally operating groups with various M&A transactions and starting and developing (cross-border) activities. Peter advises multinationals, listed companies and SME's.
Philip ter Burg, partner and lawyer, specializes in international trade, intellectual property and litigation. He advises (inter)national clients on a wide range of issues and is frequently involved in complex (cross border) transactions. Philip has a wealth of experience in (inter)national litigation, representing companies with regard to distribution and agency agreements.
Pieter van den Berg, partner and lawyer, is head of the M&A practice of BUREN, with extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, financing and insolvency. Both as a lead and co-counsel he has advised clients of different sizes (some of them listed companies) on national and cross-border transactions. In addition, Pieter acts as a trustee in bankruptcies.
Ruud Brunninkhuis, lawyer at BUREN, is an expert in (international) restructurings and insolvencies. He advises and litigates on (imminent) insolvencies, restructurings, Dutch scheme proceedings, distressed transactions, financing, directors' liability issues and in shareholder disputes. Ruud also specializes in corporate law and high-end debt collection and all means to this end, such as attachment of assets of the debtor. In addition, Ruud acts regularly as bankruptcy trustee. He is also available for appointments as a restructuring expert (herstructureringsdeskundige) and observer (observator) in Dutch Scheme proceedings
Stefan van Wijk, partner and lawyer, focuses on insolvency law, financing and securities and commercial contracts. His specialties are advising companies in financial difficulties on restructuring and impending insolvency, and advising directors and shareholders on liability risks. He works in insolvency practice and business law practice and advises businesses of various sizes in these areas. Since 2007, Stefan is frequently appointed as trustee in insolvencies by, amongst others, the District Court of The Hague, and is actively involved in insolvencies in which colleagues are appointed as receiver. He also acts as a lawyer in proceedings on matters such as directors' and officers' liability, contractual disputes and unlawful acts.
Steven van der Waal, of counsel  and former civil law notary, advises national and international clients – both listed and non-listed companies – in a variety of areas, such as mergers and acquisitions, private equity, restructuring, financing transactions, share and bond issues, and share option plans. Steven is the head of BUREN’s Japan desk and has now been working for more than twenty-five years for clients primarily from Asia and the Middle East. He is a visiting professor at the Law Schools of the Guizhou University and the Guiyang University in China. He regularly travels to China to deliver lectures to the law students at this university.
Susanna Tang, lawyer at BUREN, is specialized in corporate law. She assists clients in mergers and acquisitions. She also advises on commercial contracts, partnerships and joint ventures. In addition, she assists Dutch clients with outbound investments into China, as well as Chinese inbound investors into the Netherlands and Europe.
