Gunnar Thor Thorarinsson is an Icelandic lawyer with an LLM degree from the London School of Economics, dually qualified to practice in Iceland and England. He specialises in banking and finance, corporate finance and capital markets, corporate law, financial restructuring and insolvency, M&A, and energy law.
Gunnar advised international clients in relation to investments in Iceland, in recent years most notably the bondholder groups of the failed Icelandic banks in relation to the restructuring of the Icelandic financial system, directly participating in negotiations between the international creditors of the estates of the banks and the Icelandic authorities, representing holders of claims of up to EUR 20 billion, securing the successful settlement of the old banks late 2015.
