Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI)
Under the leadership of our managing partner, who is a woman, the firm continues to implement recruitment strategies focused on the advancement of women within the firm, while we are always very dedicated to our partnerships with organizations promoting equity and justice to ensure a totally non-discrimination working environment.
Women are an integral part of our company at every level, from top management to bottom, across the entire organizational structure. 63% of the AKL team are women.
At the same time, pay equity and bonus performance without gender discrimination is a basic rule in our effort for fairness in compensation.
In 2024 we also strengthened our policy in the sector of inclusion, by signing the Diversity Charter Greece, an initiative of the European Commission, established in Greece since 2019. Diversity Charter aims to serve as a means of commitment for the implementation of equal opportunities and diversity in every working environment in Greece. Several countries have already joined this effort (indicatively France, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Belgium, Italy, Finland, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal). As a symbolic move, in June we adapted our team logo to the Pride month colors to reflect our commitment to inclusivity and equality.
Finally, we celebrated proudly the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and also participated actively in the International Women’s Day, by creating a dialogue with our firm’s women, by asking them what are the biggest obstacles women face in their work environment (you may read their answers here: https://www.aklawfirm.gr/news/happy-international-womens-day-akl)
Our firm strongly believes that each of us can make the difference. In this context, our firm continuously undertakes initiatives related to the environmental awareness of its team members.
On the 5th of June we raised awareness to our team for World Environment Day, by organizing an educational event in collaboration with the organization We4All, a global non-profit environmental and humanitarian organization. During we4all's presentation, we delved into the do's and don'ts of recycling and discovered the best practices we can adopt to contribute to a healthier environment. Furthermore, AKL bought reusable glass bottles for its team, in order to reduce the use of plastic in our everyday life.
Regarding Food Loss and Waste, on September 29th, we celebrated the International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste, by hosting the non-profit organization “Boroume” (“We Can”), who fights food waste and food insecurity in Greece, by saving and donating huge portions of food to those in need. Furthermore, we took hands-on action by actualizing the initiative "Boroume at the Farmers Market". The AKL team members collected unsold fruit and vegetables from markets across Athens and managed to “rescue” 1,238 Kg of fruits and vegetables. This food rescue amounted to 2,560 meals and prevented 5,459 kg of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to those from 99 car trips between Athens and Thessaloniki!
Finally, the past October, we participated in a mountain cleanup of Mount Hymettus along with SPAY organization, (removing all sorts of garbage) and planted 100 trees!
