The firm: Zunarelli’s Trieste office was founded by Stefano Zunarelli, Massimo Campailla and Alberto Pasino in 1995, and has played an important role in the transport sector of its region ever since.

The partners have had key advisory roles in some of the most significant matters which have characterised Trieste’s transport scene over the last 20 years. These include: privatisation of the Trieste container terminal; the disputes between its two first concessionaires and the port authority; the re-utilisation of the so called Porto Vecchio and the legal regime of the free port of Trieste; the disputes on applicability of VAT and corporate income tax to port fees and of property tax to buildings located in the port, as well as many arrests of ships and yachts.

The firm’s Trieste office has quickly gained a significant role in the North-East of Italy, not only in maritime and transport, but also in litigation and arbitration, M&A, commercial, corporate and international law.

Clients include domestic and international companies, from major corporations to SMEs and trade associations, which operate in various sectors, including transport and international trade.

Areas of practice: The firm provides out-of-court advice, along with representation in court disputes and arbitrations on terminal and logistics operator’s liability, maritime and road transport, international sale of goods, precautionary arrest of ships, attachments of goods, disputes related to contracts of carriage, disputes related to concession of maritime state property and taxes applying thereto, M&A (legal DD; assistance in drafting and negotiating SPAs ad related documents; assistance in closing) composition with creditors and bankruptcy proceedings, issues related to the liability of company directors, building contracts, real estate, customs, tax disputes, criminal proceedings and foreign investment to and from the PRC and the Russian Federation.

The main areas of practice for Alberto Pasino are: litigation and arbitration; maritime and transport; recreational boating; insurance; commercial; and civil law and foreign investment to and from the PRC. He advises and represents carriers, shipowners and freight forwarders in cargo claims, and advises companies in commercial, corporate and M&A matters.

Massimo Campailla has extensive experience in transport, international trade, corporate and commercial, bankruptcy, tax, administrative, customs and insurance law. He advises port authorities, port enterprises, terminal operators and airport management companies. He also advises and represents major insurance companies in all complex insurance areas, ship-owners, carriers, port operators, freight-forwarders and logistics companies, as well as public institutions and public controlled companies.

Federica Fantuzzi has represented companies in criminal proceedings for administrative liability of entities for offences committed by their legal representatives. She has in particular dealt with trade mark infringement, safeguard of distinctive features of origin and provenance of products and tax crimes for non-payment of taxes, obtaining the release of properties seized for preventive purposes. She also deals with offences against the family, civil law, customs and road transport matters.

Andrea Piras advises and represents Italian and Russian companies involved in cross-border operations on issues related to industrial and intellectual property, customs law and foreign investments in the Russian Federation.
