Established in 1991 as a traditional family law firm, Talbots is now one of the largest independent law firms in the region, with a strong private client, and business and corporate services proposition.

The firm: With 11 offices located across the Midlands, Talbots Law Limited has enjoyed a sustained high level of growth, achieved both organically and by acquisition. This growth has provided the opportunity to actively recruit new specialist lawyers, including the appointment of new directors and support staff, enabling it to provide a comprehensive range of legal services to private individuals, and business and corporate clients. The firm now employs in excess of 480 people.

Talbots’ client base is a mix of private and business and corporate clients, both in the West Midlands and nationally, and clients remark on the capability and dynamism of the firm. In line with the firm’s ambition to be the region’s leading provider of choice, the team is given the freedom to innovate and be different, as long as they provide clients with clear, timely advice. It is also active in charity work, having donated around £150K to Birmingham Women’s & Children’s Hospital Charity over four years, and now supporting Acorns Childrens Hospice Charity at a similar same level.

The company looks forward to continued significant growth to £50m in the next five years.  Whilst there is particular focus on growing the business and corporate department, the management team is also looking to expand geographically.

In November 2021, Talbots Law became the first law firm in the West Midlands to convert to an Employee Owned Trust, placing its employees firmly at the centre of its future plans.  They are  accredited as a Real Living Wage employer.

Types of work undertaken: Among the wide range of services offered, Talbots is known for its work in commercial property, particularly in the franchise sector where, among other clients, the firm acts nationally for franchisees of a global fast food chain; residential property, for which the firm is ranked in the top 10 UK firms for conveyancing volumes; family work – Talbots has Family Mediation Council accredited lawyers and Specialist Children Panel Member lawyers; and trusts and estates, with a team including members of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), internationally recognised as experts in their field, with proven qualifications and experience.
