The firm: Law Office Miljkovic & Partners was established in 2005 by the present managing partner of the firm, Sead Miljkovic, as a single-lawyer law firm, co-operating with an international law firm. In 2014, Mr Miljkovic decided to team up with Amar Bajramovic, and the firm began to grow. The firm’s practice historically focused on commercial and corporate law, serving international companies active in Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H). Industry-wise the firm’s practice concentrated on clients active in the energy, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, food and automotive industries.
Areas of practice
Business law: the firm is dedicated to serving the requirements of businesses large and small, with attorneys who have experience in various industries and have advised on privatisations, acquisitions and sales of businesses. The focus of the practice over the past decade has been on projects in the energy, telecommunications and infrastructure fields.
Energy and projects: since 2005 the firm’s lawyers have been engaged in all major energy projects in B&H. They regularly advise all major energy companies active in B&H on both conventional and renewable energy projects, as well as companies involved in trade of electricity.
Real estate: the firm advises clients on all legal aspects of their real estate business, including loan agreements and securities, enforcement proceedings over real and movable property, asset transactions, concessions and others.
Competition and antitrust: the firm has represented clients in some of the most challenging competition and antitrust matters in B&H since the competition authority was set up in 2005. Managing partner Sead Miljkovic has particular expertise in national and EU competition law matters and has advised on the imposition of fines, distribution agreements, competition concerns related to energy and telecommunications projects, civil litigation and everyday compliance counselling.
Banking and finance: the firm has worked with all types of businesses to help them negotiate, structure and document their financial needs in all forms. It advises on corporate finance, project finance, financial restructuring and regulatory aspects for financial institutions.
Insolvency and restructuring: the practice has experience representing both secured and unsecured creditors and debtors, as well as insolvency professionals, on the full spectrum of insolvency matters, regardless of complexity or location. The firm’s experience allows it to give clients a swift assessment of their risks and develop a recovery plan.
Employment: the practice focuses mainly on the issues clients face in their day-to-day business operations, including reviewing employee policy manuals and developing employment agreements. The firm regularly counsels on employment contracts, management contracts, employee discipline, terminations, labour disputes, redundancy plans and the implementation of small and large-scale redundancy projects.
Dispute resolution: when business and commercial disputes arise, the firm helps its clients in negotiations, often in alternative dispute resolution settings. When those methods fail, the firm’s experienced attorneys are able to aggressively pursue judicial relief or defend any claims brought against its clients in all courts in B&H.
Regulatory and public procurement: the firm helps clients to understand the complex regulatory legal framework in B&H and to minimise regulatory risks by aiming to provide preventative advice. Partner Amar Bajramovic has developed extensive know-how of heavily regulated public sectors, as well as of compliance issues with the environmental regulations.
Intellectual property: the firm advises clients on various intellectual property matters. Its experience allows it to give clients a swift assessment of potential trade mark infringement matters. The firm regularly advises on trade mark registration procedures in B&H, and over its years of practice it has built solid professional relationships with competent authorities, courts and other attorneys active in this field.
