Career

Bernardo Herrerías Franco focuses his practice in the areas of intellectual property (IP) and copyrights, as well as litigation in such areas. Bernardo began his professional career joining Barrera Siqueiros y Torres Landa (now Hogan Lovells BSTL) in 1984 and became a partner in 1998. He has been ranked Band 2 in Intellectual Property by Chambers Latin America, Latin America's Leading Lawyers for Business since 2011. Additionally, he was rated in the WTR 1000 World Trademark Review the "Bronze" merit for the outstanding work in enforcement and litigation and in prosecution and strategy in 2013. He has been consistently ranked in the yearly handbooks of Managing Intellectual Property since 2009 in Trademark/Copyright Contentious, Trademark Prosecution, and Copyright, recognizing his work by peers in those areas. The publication Acquisition International awarded BSTL the "Mexican Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year" in 2012 acknowledging the leadership of the IP team and firm. IAM Patent 1000 2013 – The World's Leading Patent Professional mentioned him as "all-around IP master," being the key to the group's success, winning plaudits from peers and clients alike for his "conscientious and practical" approach to contentious matters, ranking him and the firm in litigation. Member of Asociación Mexicana para la Protección de la Propiedad Intelectual (Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property), where he served as President during the three year term 2014 - 2016. Mr. Herrerías is a member of the International Trademark Association, where he currently serves as member of the Internet Committee. He is also involved with the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, where he is a member of Standing Committee Enforcement of IP Rights; and the International Chamber of Commerce, where he is Trademark Vice-President in the Intellectual Property Committee.

Education

Mr. Herrerías received his bachelor’s degree from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and then went on to complete a master’s degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science, in London, England (1992), receiving a Chevening scholarship from the British Council. He specialized in appeals law (1993), economic and corporate law (1994), and civil and commercial procedural law (1995) at Universidad Panamericana.
