Career

With a doctorate in intellectual property (IP) law and a focus on fashion law at Fordham University, Maria Luigia Franceschelli has a true passion for IP and has developed a thorough understanding in managing any type of IP issues, including copyright, art and advertising ones. She simply enjoys advising consumer clients on a wide variety of IP-related matters, ranging from strategic advices on advertising and marketing issues to day-to-day assistance in negotiating, drafting and reviewing agreements involving IP rights. She has developed a thorough understanding in managing global portfolios for key Italian clients and is involved in both contentious and non-contentious matters.

When there is an IP issue, Maria Luigia is passionate about investigating the problem from every angle to find the most effective solution, taking into account the goal of adopting business-oriented decisions. She is particularly involved in the fashion and luxury sector, working on a daily basis with leading clients in the field and assisting them with the most diverse problematics. As a matter of fact, she has been seconded to two major Italian fashion houses belonging to a world leading luxury group for more than 2 years as internal counsel, working within the IP, licensing, marketing and communication departments, and is very well aware of what clients want from their lawyers.

Graduating from the University of Milan in 2010, cum laude, after spending a semester at UC Berkeley, Maria Luigia was admitted to the Milan Bar in 2013 and then concluded her doctorate in IP at the University of Milan, with a thesis focusing on designs, trademarks and copyright. Further, Maria Luigia actively collaborates with various IP newsletters, blogs, and journals.
