Position

Ryan has significant experience in purchases, disposals, commercial contracts, financial facilities, and restructuring transactions.  Ryan also has experience dealing with insolvency matters and shareholder disputes, working across both the corporate and litigation departments.

Ryan has particular expertise advising sporting bodies, including sports clubs, intermediaries and advisors, governing bodies and third sector bodies.  Ryan holds a membership with LawInSport and regularly writes on developments in Sports law.  In particular, Ryan was contacted for insight into the European Super League from a sports law perspective by Business Insider, providing analysis on the proposal and being quoted in the publication: https://www.insider.co.uk/news/broadcasters-should-commit-tv-ban-23947306

Ryan has also worked with a wide range of banks and lenders, charities, contractors, manufacturing clients, and across the care and hospitality sectors.

Career

Ryan graduated from Aberdeen and Edinburgh Universities.  He trained with Gilson Gray and completed a mixed seat traineeship where he gained experience in corporate law, litigation, private client, and property and completed an in-house secondment at Arnold Clark.  Ryan joined Macdonald Henderson's corporate team in 2021 as a senior solicitor and was appointed as an Associate Director in 2023.

Ryan speaks French to a working / conversational standard.

Education

Ryan obtained an upper second class honours LLB from Aberdeen, with honours in Corporate Finance, Multinational Companies and the law, Employment Law and Intellectual Property.  Following his undergraduate degree, Ryan obtained his diploma with merit from Edinburgh University, with electives in Corporate Finance, Employment Law, and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Leisure

Ryan is a keen musician, gigging and recording with various bands across Glasgow and Inverclyde.  He is also a keen sportsperson, playing football, basketball, running and cycling.
