Puente Sur
About
Puente Sur’s tax advisory unit is run by tax attorney Ignacio Gepp, a recognized voice within the public debate being carried through Chilean local newspapers and other specialized media (Bloomberg, International VAT Monitor, Diario Financiero, La Tercera / Pulso, EMOL or Estado Diario).
With more than 130 staff (a mix between economists, lawyers, CPAs, etc.), a client can walk in due to an issue with the Chilean tax authority and walk out with a full reprocessing of 6 years-worth of tax and accounting records, if so was reasonably demanded by the authority to end a conflict.
Assisting clients from over 20 different industries, the firm has extensive proven experience, especially in the energy industry, telecoms, digital services and assisting international investments funds.
Puente Sur is a member of Praxity, one of the largest alliances of independent accounting firms in the world.
Energy industry: With a practice aimed to renewable energy sources, Puente Sur has assisted several major investments in Chile, developing tax structuring strategies for multinational holdings and their local operating entities, providing solutions to complex cross-border matters, entry and exit strategies, and successfully handling VAT recovery procedures.
Telecoms: Puente Sur has assisted clients by providing tax planning services for financing purposes, including ongoing support in the tax structure supporting acquisitions and construction projects, playing a defining role as an advocator for its clients interests before Chilean government authorities, and acting as a negotiator with local telecoms companies concerning the lease of real assets and communication stations.
Digital services: Puente Sur has taken the lead in this relatively new legal reality, not only as an active voice in the public debate, but assisting some of the most well-known digital companies, in order to advise them on complying as non-residents with the new VAT on digital services law, and, at the same time, finding a proper manner to communicate their business model to the Chilean tax authority, for tax efficiency purposes.
Foreign investment funds: The firm has served as an advisor for foreign investment funds with interests in real assets (forestry and agriculture), providing advice on financing structure, entry and exit strategies, definition of investment vehicles and efficient ongoing tax operation, including VAT recovery procedures.
