Position

Senior Fee Earner - COP

I am a senior fee earner in the Court of Protection Team. The Team specialises in supporting clients who lack capacity to manage their property and financial affairs due to traumatic brain injuries, and who have received a significant award of damages.  Most of the clients that I support have been involved in personal injury and clinical negligence claims handled by Barratts, and therefore benefit from continuity of care and support during and after the litigation process ends.

The team and I work with the client to navigate the way through financial investment, property purchase and adaptation, engagement of case managers, recruiting and employment of care providers, sourcing and engagement of appropriate therapists and whatever else is needed  to maximise the client’s quality of life.

Career

I qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and initially trained and worked as a commercial litigation solicitor for a large City firm, specialising in insurance and re-insurance work.  I took some time away from my career to raise my family.

Before returning to the legal profession and joining Barratts in 2019, I worked as a welfare benefits and debt adviser at the Citizens Advice Bureau and as an independent mental health advocate for an advocacy charity.  I found my way into the Court of Protection by working as a team leader at the Office of the Public Guardian, supervising a team who provided support and guidance to lay deputies.

My litigation experience gives me valuable insight into how compensation claims are quantified and the allocation of damages for different needs during a client’s lifetime.
