Diversity

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion

At Mills & Reeve we do everything we can to ensure our people thrive. We truly value everyone’s opinions, and one of our key values is to treat each other as equals and have respect for all staff and partners. As a result we have been named in the Sunday Times 100 best companies to work for a record 18 years’ running, something no other law firm has achieved.

Actively involving everyone

We have a number of networks providing safe environments to discuss and promote diversity and inclusion. These include:

  • REACH (Race, ethnicity and cultural heritage) network
  • Spectrum our LGBTQ+ network
  • Ability network (raising awareness of disabilities, neurodiversity and health conditions)
  • PACT (Parents and Carers Together) network

What we are doing

Our diversity and inclusion steering group monitors diversity levels, and encourages and oversees a broad reaching range of initiatives across the firm.

We are one of a handful of top UK law firms with a female managing partner, and work hard to encourage progression of women to the top of our firm. For example, four out of seven partner promotions this year were women. Our in depth gender pay gap report goes beyond statutory requirements and gives an insight into the hard work we are doing in this area. We are committed to tackling the challenges we face, and strive to make real improvements.

Increasing accountability and opportunities

We are working towards increasing the proportion of Black, Asian and minority ethnic staff and partners within our firm by increasing accountability, changing our ways of working, promoting, recruiting and providing more support.

We recently trialled a reverse mentoring scheme with members of our REACH network mentoring senior members of the firm on their experiences. We have also launched our Reach Development Award 2022 offering a financial bursary, mentorship and work experience to young people from under-represented communities within the legal profession.

Collaborating with others

We strive to be an inclusive place for lesbian, gay, bi and trans people to work, are a Stonewall Diversity Champion and member of the Inter Law Diversity Forum. Our Spectrum network is committed to providing support, representation and development for all in the LGBTQ+ community. In order to provide an inclusive environment we recently introduced pronouns into staff email signatures, and have altered our standard letter templates to make them gender neutral.

Mills & Reeve is committed to helping all staff and partners to work in the way that is best, and most accessible for them. We encourage all employees and clients to let us know about any accessibility requirements so we can address them efficiently and create an accessible workplace for all. Our Ability network collaborates with the Business Disability Forum and the Inter Law Firm Forum on Disabilities to ensure we meet and exceed best practice in this area.

Achieve more. Together.

At Mills & Reeve we treat others as equals and respect clients and each other always. Full stop.
