Position

Simon is a Partner and heads the non-contentious construction team in our Construction department. He has over 30 years' experience in the sector, initially as a chartered surveyor and then as a lawyer. He acts for developers, property owners, funders, contractors, consultants and sub-contractors and has particular expertise in the following sectors: residential (both private rental sector (PRS) and prime residential for high net worth private clients), hotels, student accommodation, office (in particular flexible work spaces) and distribution centres.

Simon advises on construction procurement strategy and prepares and negotiates all forms of construction agreements, including forward funding agreements, building contracts, consultants' appointments, warranties, bonds and guarantees,  He advises a number of property development and investment companies including Delancey, PGIM, UBS, AEW, Dominus, Watkins Jones, Get Living and Student Roost.

Examples of Simon's relevant deals includes acting for QDD in respect of the ongoing development of the East Village in Stratford, east London, acting for Allianz/AEW in respect of distribution centres around the UK, and acting for Thamesbank Developments in respect of a mixed-use hotel, student accommodation and retail scheme in Plymouth.

Career

Previously quantity surveyor with EC Harris, Cross Rail, Jubilee line extension project, G&T 1989-98. Trained Hammonds; qualified 2000; senior assistant Simmons and Simmons 2001-04; Kilpatrick Stockton projects team 2004-06; partner Finers Stephens Innocent LLP 2007-09.

Leisure

Outside work Simon enjoys regular visits to South America and spending time with his wife Renata and their children Maya and John.
