Broadhurst is a Cayman offshore specialist litigation, insolvency and corporate boutique law firm advising local and international clients. Broadhurst is frequently engaged in local and international disputes and transactions by multinational institutions, high-net-worth individuals, creditors, debtors, directors, officers, shareholders, liquidators, receivers and other professionals. They frequently handle Cayman litigation and transactions on behalf of non-Cayman law firms and in-house counsel.

Main areas of the dispute resolution practice include: insolvency and corporate restructuring; private client and trust disputes; asset tracing and enforcement; personal injury claims; high-value family law litigation; insurance; property; as well as corporate and commercial disputes.

In addition to Broadhurst’s wealth of experience in multijurisdictional dispute resolution matters it has a solid backbone of restructuring and insolvency experience which allows their attorneys to service clients from the litigation aspect of a matter as well as the restructuring/insolvency component of a matter.

In the last 12 months Broadhurst LLC has been newly retained on a myriad of complex litigation matters including, but not limited to:

  • Defending the 6 AwalCo companies in the AHABSaad et al US$9 billion (reduced to US$6 billion) corporate fraud claim AHAB is pursuing against the AwalCos and other defendants through the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal and now on appeal to the Privy Counsel;
  • Advising two of the independent directors of the general partner of one of the Abraaj funds, Neoma Private Equity Fund IV LP (formerly known as Abraaj Private Equity Fund IV LP) concerning complex issues arising out of the collapse of the single largest Middle Eastern private equity group, said at one time to have had US$ 12 Billion of assets under management.
  • Advising and representing the JOLs of Ascentra Holdings, Inc (in Official Liquidation) in contentious cross-border insolvency proceedings
  • Acting for the JVLs of Income Collecting 1-3 Months T-Bills Mutual Fund (formerly in voluntary liquidation now in official liquidation) in litigious and contentious cross-boarder insolvency proceedings involving the SEC, directors, service providers and other entities;
  • Advising the JOLs of MV Advisory Ltd. (in Official Liquidation) the management company of a large Cayman Islands resort on potential claims;
  • Acting for the Defendants in an alleged $6 million dollar fraud concerning real property in Japan; and
  • Representing numerous individuals on serious and high-value personal injury matters.

Broadhurst is often engaged to litigate opposite larger multi-office offshore firms, with demonstrated successful outcomes. Broadhurst’s lawyers have extensive experience before all Courts and Tribunals in Cayman and have worked on the largest and most complex litigation cases in Cayman.

The relatively recent additions of Ian Lambert, Tiziana Romano and Joseph Romano to Broadhurst has bolstered its already experienced team of litigators. Broadhurst has 10 fee earners comprising of 8 lawyers and 2 paralegals. 7 of the lawyers are litigators and Jeffrey Johnstone (the 8th lawyer) provides key corporate and commercial advice to Broadhurst’s litigation clients. Of the law firms that only have offices in Cayman, Broadhurst has one of the largest litigation teams.
