Interview with…

Katerina Marin, Managing Director

The Managing Director, Mrs Katerina Marini, explains how the law firm is adapting to the modern social requirements of legal services and is growing dynamically and rapidly.

What do you see as the main points that differentiate KMD LAW FIRM from your competitors?

Our firm’s insistence on attention to detail and its decisive client-centered

approach to the legal cases we handle have set us apart over the past twenty

years. As a result, we are now growing rapidly and successfully offering legal

services across a truly wide range of law. Our aim is to think out of the box, to

provide comprehensive protection with innovative ideas, particularly in cases

where our clients are new businesses.

From the very beginning, we stand by our clients, handling their cases with

professionalism and integrity, striving for the best possible solution that will

boost their business plans and drive them forward. At KMD LAW FIRM, we do

not see our clients as cases to be solved, but as partners with goals who

require full and ongoing support to ensure the success of their business

ventures.

Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the

drivers behind that?

The immediate implementation of new technologies, particularly artificial

intelligence, in daily legal practice significantly defines the areas of

development in law for the near future, alongside a shift towards specialized

service provision. As a result, we are moving away from the concept of the

"lone" lawyer and are pursuing specialization in legal fields through large

teams, which foster the cultivation of expertise and generally facilitate our

daily work through the application of new technologies, ensuring valuable

time savings.

What’s the main change you’ve made in the firm that will benefit the clients?

Over the past four years, our law firm has experienced a significant shift

towards specialization. This change has been driven both by the growing

demand from our clients for specialized legal services—such as in the tourism

and hospitality sector, or the energy sector—and by the competitive

development of modern law firms in Greece. As a result of this smooth

process, KMD LAW FIRM is now staffed with lawyers who possess advanced

knowledge and expertise in specific areas of law. This not only contributes to

the growth of our firm but also brings tangible benefits to our clients, as all

their needs—whether they are individuals or businesses—are fully addressed

by the various specialized departments within our firm.

Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the

services you can provide them?

Undoubtedly, what has been happening over the past three years with

artificial intelligence in the legal field in Greece—while abroad, it has been an

experience lasting over five years—affects the lawyer-client relationship. We

fully understand that, due to the inevitable implementation of artificial

intelligence and new technologies in our profession, along with the

undeniable time and resource savings, the core lawyer-client relationship will

evolve. We remain optimistic and determined that the personal relationship

of trust between the lawyer and each client individually, which is the driving

force of our team, will not be affected.

Furthermore, at KMD LAW FIRM, we fully recognize the potential that new

technologies offer in saving time and resources, while enhancing

transparency in the calculation of working hours and services. These

technologies have significantly shaped how the work of all our lawyers on

client cases is structured, organized, and allocated. As a result, all cases are

digitally stored and easily accessible to our team via computers, just as

the firm's library is also fully digital. As a result of this organization, all

cases are digitally stored and easily accessible to our team through

computers, as well as the firm’s Library, which is similarly digital. At the

same time, all lawyers are able to work remotely when necessary, simply by

using their computers and accessing the firm’s digital files. This

capability was crucial in ensuring the continuous operation of our office

during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing us to work from home or

outside the office without disruption.

Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add

value to their business?

At KMD LAW FIRM, our fundamental principle is to speak truthfully to our

clients and think creatively to help them achieve their goals. Even in cases

where clients wanted to engage in extensive legal disputes to clarify the

ownership status of a property intended for a major tourism investment

outside of Athens, we, with professionalism and integrity, advised against

pursuing this investment strategy for that specific property. Instead, we

guided them towards alternative investment solutions. Often, the value we

provide to our clients' businesses is not just offering comprehensive legal

support for their daily operations, but also in providing practical advice that

certain strategic goals may ultimately prove to cost more in terms of time and

financial resources. Therefore, it is in the best interest of the business to

reconsider and adjust their strategic planning.

Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms- where do you see the firm in three years’ time?

Clients seek not only legal support and judicial representation but also

guidance from their specialized lawyer on personal or corporate matters. At

KMD LAW FIRM, we fully recognize this need and consistently meet it, making

it one of the core qualities we prioritize in every lawyer who is part of our

team. Our firm began its systematic involvement in energy law around five

years ago, and to this day, we have handled significant cases and projects

across Greece. We are constantly on the lookout for new, innovative ideas, and our goal is to broaden the areas of law we specialize in, as evidenced by

the steady growth of our firm. Currently, we are developing new specialized

areas of commercial law that we believe will add significant value to our

practice. These will be integrated into our firm along with the relevant legal

expertise. In this regard, KMD LAW FIRM will undoubtedly be one step ahead

in three years, with a larger team of associates and partners bringing their

specialized knowledge and an expanded range of innovative areas for the

modern lawyer
