OP ČAD (slo. Odvetniška pisarna ČAD / eng. Law Firm ČAD, hereinafter also referred to as the “Law Firm”) has been established on the Slovenian and international market as a “specialised” Law Firm with a long tradition of quality and highly professional legal services with an emphasis on Commercial Law. We have been operating as an independent Law Firm for 30 years and have gained a high reputation and comprehensive experience in all our years of practice, which result from many years of cooperation with various clients, from individuals to large multinational enterprises with an international presence. When providing services, we focus on practical and individually-tailored consultancy that contributes to maintaining the business excellence of our clients in their field of work. We recognise the uniqueness of each client, so our approach is completely tailored to the needs of the clients who are vital to us.

OUR STORY

Our beginnings date back to 1995, when our Founding Partner, Attorney-at-Law Tomaž Čad, began to practice law independently, while at the same time acting as a Bankruptcy Receiver / Trustee in insolvency and compulsory liquidation proceedings under Slovenian legislation. He started his career in judicature, all the way to the state bar exam, then continued in the business sector (MP SlovenijalesTrgovina) and banking sector (UBK banka), after finally deciding to establish his own Law Firm. He was joined in 2007 by Attorney-at-Law Barbara Kürner Čad, who had previously gained experience and knowledge in judicature, commercial disputes, as well as bankruptcy and compulsory settlement proceedings and court register matters. After ten years of working as a District Judge in Ljubljana, she became a Member of the Management Board of the Slovenian Development Corporation (“SRD”), in charge of corporate restructuring. She has also served as a member of several Supervisory Boards, including the Supervisory Board of GOSPDODARSKO RAZSTAVIŠČE d.o.o. (2005 – 2013), ABANKA VIPA d.d. (2014 – 2015), Telekom Slovenije, d. d. (2017 – 2021) and Loterija Slovenije (2018-2023), among others. In 2024, Attorney-at-Law Matic Čad took over as the next generation Partner, with vast domestic and international experience in the wider area of Commercial Law.

The advantages of the Law Firm are prominently highlighted due to experience of the Law Firm's Founding Partner, Attorney-at-Law Tomaž Čad and Partner, Attorney-at-Law Barbara Kürner Čad, combined with innovative approaches of the next generation Partner, Attorney-at-Law Matic Čad and other representatives of the Law Firm. We combine experts that in addition to everyone's specific field of expertise, universally also master general legal areas, which enables us to provide our clients with comprehensive legal solutions to their problems and individually-tailored consultancy. We provide the highest quality services through teamwork, as due to the frequent intertwining of different areas of law, it has repeatedly proved true that “two minds are better than one”. Group research, consultation and the search for innovative solutions are reflected in the best possible preparation of individual legal documents and thus in the provision of the highest quality service.

Our team does not compete with other law firms but rather focuses on themselves and the Law Firm’s clients. As a law firm, we are considered a medium sized firm with up to fifteen employees at all times, and we intend to remain so. The size of our Law Firm and our team's cooperation are the advantages that allows us to maintain professionalism, flexibility and maximum efficiency.

OUR PRACTICE

The Law Firm specializes in Commercial Law in the broadest sense of the term, with excellent knowledge of various areas of economic activity, and offers a wide range of quality legal services. The professionalism, high quality and focus on our clients in providing legal consulting services, legal aid and the provision of other legal services is reflected in the trust and loyalty of our clients.

OUR INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Law Firm is a full member of associations that effectively connect corporate entities and individuals whose common goal is integration, the exchange of opinions and professional collaboration. We can highlight our firm's membership in AmCham (American Chamber of Commerce in Slovenia), German-Slovene Chamber of Commerce and Industry - AHK and British-Slovenian Chamber of Commerce, which all represent exceptionally active associations with a major contribution to excellence in relations between foreign and local entities operating in the Slovenian business and corporate scene. Attorney-at-Law Tomaž Čad is currently serving as a member of AHK's Supervisory Board, whereas Attorney-at-Law Matic Čad is serving as co-chair of the People and Culture Council of the British-Slovenian Chamber of Commerce.

Law Firm has been a full member of IUSFUL - European Legal Network of law firms since 2009. This network currently brings together 19 law firms from across Europe, being most active in the CEE and SEE regions, and also working very intensely in the CEE region. Attorney-at-Law Tomaž Čad has been the General Secretary of IUSFUL Network since 2018, making our Law Firm the General Secretary Office.

OUR FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

DEVELOPMENT: At our Law Firm, we have several client-focused cost-saving and efficiency initiatives however, we are only prepared to disclose certain general descriptions of our initiatives, namely the following: (i) Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs); (ii) Legal Technology Integration (document management, automating routine processes and enhancing research capabilities, thereby reducing billable hours and improving overall efficiency); (iii) Time Tracking (applicable for hourly-rate Arrangements); (iv) Dedicated Focal Points / Client Teams; (v) Proactive Risk Management; (vi) Education and Training for our Clients; (vii) Continuous Improvement Programs (KPI’s, tracking, feedback loops, etc.).

EXPANSION: Since our beginning, our Law Firm had its headquarters based in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. Our headquarters will remain in Ljubljana, however, an expansion into the second largest city of Slovenia – Maribor – was completed in 2024. Following the needs of our clients and the market situation in Slovenia, our Law Firm has decided to extend its presence in Maribor, by opening a subsidiary, which will be co-run by Attorneys-at-Law Barbara Kürner Čad and Matic Čad, while at the same time employing new personnel to be present in Maribor.
