Career
Gerardo developed a distinguished career in antitrust and competition law, while developing other key areas of administrative law, including compliance and consumer law.
He has a wealth of experience in boutique law firms, having worked for 8 years, as an associate and partner, in Valdes Abascal Abogados, a specialized firm in competition law.
Gerardo then joined Baker McKenzie for 10 years, at the Mexico City and Washington offices, where: (i) he continued his specialization in antitrust matters, (ii) while integrating its administrative law knowledge into other legal fields, including corporate transactions, compliance capabilities, public procurement and regulatory matters, and (iii) acquired significant experience in the healthcare & life sciences industries.
He then experienced working as in-house lawyer for 2 years, as Deputy Director for Antitrust & Consumer Protection Compliance in Walmart, where he developed further his profile on compliance and consumer protection, in the healthcare, consumer, and retail sectors.
He is a former professor of economic competition law with the Universidad Panamericana of Mexico City; has been invited professor of anti-corruption matters in this law school; and invited lecturer at IPADE Business School and La Salle University.
Gerardo Holds a Bachelors in Law from Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City and he is a former professor of economic competition law and has been invited professor of anti-corruption matters in this law school; and invited lecturer at IPADE Business School and La Salle University. In addition, he has been a regular speaker on economic competition and compliance matters in both national and international forums and author several legal publications in these fields.
He represented the Mexican Government as part of the delegation in charge of drafting the ISO 37001:2016 Anticorruption Management System.
He serves as a non-governmental advisor for the Mexican Competition Commission(“COFECE”) before the International Competition Network and former Chair of the Economic Competition Committee of ANADE (National Association of Business Lawyers).
