Mr Ameet Naik is the founder and managing partner of Naik Naik and Company (‘firm’), one of the leading full-service law firms in India with offices in Mumbai and Delhi. The firm was founded in 2004 and in a short span of time has consistently been rated as a Band I firm in the TMT sector by Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, Business Law Journal and others. Ameet is regarded as one of India’s leading lawyers in the TMT sector and dispute resolution. Ameet has handled some of the most high-profile and landmark litigation across all sectors including TMT, capital market, corporate, retail and real-estate before the Supreme Court of India, High Courts across India, forums and tribunals including the Competition Commission of India, Company Law Board, TDSAT and APTEL. In the TMT sector, Ameet represents and has represented (a) international and domestic studios and distributors like Warner, BBC, Fox, Viacom, Reliance, Bennett Coleman, Vishesh Films, Balaji Telefilms, Anil Kapoor Film Company, Endemol, Abundantia Entertainment, Phantom; (b) broadcasters like Viacom and Indian Broadcasting Federation; (c) talent management companies like CAA Kwan; (d) digital service providers like Prime Focus and Motion Makers; and (e) content aggregators and distributors like Saavn and Vista India. In the securities and other litigation space, Ameet has handled cases for India’s leading stock exchanges and commodity exchanges like MCX-SX, MCX and National Spot Exchange of India (where the quantum involved was over USD 1 billion), Adarsh Society, Retailer Association of India on the issue of imposition of service tax on renting of immovable property, Cricket Association of Bihar against BCCI in alleged spot fixing and betting matter. In the internal commercial arbitration space, Ameet has represented Future Retail Limited in its dispute with Axiom Telecom LLC, Hardy Exploration and Production (India) INC against Union of India, Aitreya Limited against Dans Energy Private Limited. On the corporate side, Ameet has advised on various high profile transactions, including setting up of Imagica, an USD250 million theme park investment by one of the largest domestic fund (i.e.) ICICI Ventures investment in Adlabs Imagica, investment in Abundantia Entertainment, joint venture of CAIC, LLC, one of the largest US talent management companies with Kwan Securities Private Limited, overseas acquisition in the media space by the Reliance ADAG Group, joint venture of Waterfront Films Private Limited with a Virgin Group entity. Ameet has been invited to speak on legal issues at several renowned media. He was invited for a panel discussion on a national news television programme, the Big Fight, to discuss the order passed by the Bombay High Court allowing the telecast of the show, Bigg Boss, during prime time. Ameet made a representation before the Bimal Jalan Committee constituted to discuss the merits and demerits of corporatization and demutualization of stock exchanges. In 2012, Ameet authored the book, The Role and Rule of Law: A legal handbook on the Indian Media & Entertainment Industry, which was launched by the Indian Information and Broadcasting Minister, Manish Tiwari, at a CII Forum in Delhi on October 29, 2012. In 2014, the updated version of the aforesaid book is scheduled to be launched by the Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar at a CII Forum in Delhi on September 19, 2014.
