TAX: FEDERAL EXCISE DUTY CHARGED ON ROTALTY
The Firm is presently representing Wetherford Drilling International an international oil and gas services company on a complex question of law before the Islamabad High Court.
The matter pertains to the levy of federal excise duty on the use of the phrase royalty. The question also pertains to whether a license agreement executed between tow international entities outside the jurisdiction of Pakistan can be interpreted to be a franchise agreement for the purposes of the federal excise act.
The Firm has presently secured a temporary injunction to halt recovery of the claim by the tax department till the final outcome of the matter
