Mike Scherp
Mike originally qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and after spending several years in the Channel Islands he qualified as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 2005. Mike has been involved in healthcare law since 2002 and has dealt with cases that cover almost all aspects of healthcare; his civil practice extends from managing claims at all stages of the process with a focus on providing an efficient, pro-active and cost effective service that achieves the best possible outcome for his clients. That he has acted for Claimants and Defendants in clinical negligence litigation over the years gives him a real ability to understand the aims and motivations of the other party, which informs the strategic and tactical advice he provides to clients. Mike is also an expert in defending healthcare professionals in regulatory proceedings, criminal cases and Inquests. His experience of GDC and GMC cases includes assisting clients with all phases of a regulatory investigation through to contested hearings, including interim orders hearings. Mike also represents clients involved in investigations being undertaken by NHS England, Local Health Boards and NHS Trusts. Mike also represents healthcare professionals in Inquests and any related regulatory or civil proceedings. That vast breadth of experience means that Mike has a real understanding of the Healthcare sector, and also the way it works on a day to day basis, which allows him to protect and advance his client’s interests whatever problems may confront them.
