Career

Melanie has worked in clinical negligence for over 10 years and advises on severe birth injury cases as well as serious spinal injury cases involving paralysis. Clients say: “She always did exactly what she said she would do and showed a true interest in her job.”

A highly experienced clinical negligence specialist, Melanie has conducted all types of claims from low-value to multimillion-pound claims. Melanie ensures that her team is up to date with new laws and developments within clinical negligence, with the team achieving Band 1 status with Chambers in 2009.

Before joining the group Melanie qualified as a nurse at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, after which she trained, qualified in 1990 and worked for Norton Rose for 2 years. She then moved to a specialist defendant, clinical negligence practice in London, where she became a Partner. In 1997, Melanie moved to the South Coast to specialise in claimant clinical negligence work.

At work, Melanie has a particular interest in obstetric claims, ranging from cerebral palsy to stillbirths.

She is  an APIL accredited Senior Litigator. Melanie is also a member of the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s Clinical Negligence Accreditation Scheme and a member of the AvMA Referral Panel.
