The firm: Sheridan Gold’s lawyers have an outstanding reputation for their knowledge and experience of construction and engineering law. Sheridan Gold acts for developers, contractors, specialist sub-contractors and consultants across the commercial property, education, energy, health, PFI, leisure, transport, waste and water sectors.

While Sheridan Gold’s offices are based in the south east, it works for clients and on projects across the country. Every member of the Sheridan Gold team has considerable knowledge and experience of the legal, technical and commercial issues that arise across all sectors in the construction and engineering industry. Its lawyers are senior lawyers with more than 20 years’ experience of working on construction and engineering matters. Several of Sheridan Gold’s lawyers have previously worked in the industry, as engineers and in house counsel for consultants and contractors.

Sheridan Gold’s senior lawyers carry out the work that the firm is instructed on, and remain the point of contact for clients. They are accessible, flexible and responsive to each client’s requirements. The ethos of the firm is to ensure that at all times it provides the best possible advice and representation for its clients, in the most practical, commercial and cost effective way.

Types of work undertaken
Construction dispute resolution: the firm advises on all aspects of dispute avoidance and resolution in the construction and engineering industry, and on PFI and PPP schemes. Its priority is to minimise the cost, management time and disruption for its clients. Much of the firm’s work is strategic advice to prevent problems escalating into significant disputes. Where this is not possible, Sheridan Gold makes effective use of mediation and other alternative dispute resolution techniques to try to resolve disputes at a manageable cost. If formal dispute resolution proceedings are unavoidable, Sheridan Gold has particular experience of adjudication, arbitration and litigation in the Technology and Construction Court. One of its lawyers, Jane Ryland, acts as an adjudicator, and is an accredited TeCSA and CIArb panel adjudicator. Peter Sheridan is the author of a leading practitioner’s book, Construction and Engineering Arbitration, and is the editor of the adjudication section of the Construction Law Journal. Sheridan Gold has been involved in some of the largest cases in the Technology and Construction Court over the course of the last ten years.

Procurement: Sheridan Gold deals with the drafting and negotiation of documentation for all types of projects, including PFI/PPP schemes, building developments, infrastructure schemes and all types of engineering projects. Its lawyers have also been engaged by industry bodies to draft standard forms for building and engineering projects.

Other: the firm also advises and represents clients in commercial litigation matters that are not specific to construction and engineering projects.
