Markel Law LLP (Markel Law) is an independent SRA authorised and regulated legal services business with in excess of 70 specialist solicitors and barristers offering services to both insured and non-insured private clients. We were proud to be a finalist for ‘Insurance Law Firm of the Year’ at the British Claims Awards in 2021 and 2022. In addition the regulatory team were shortlisted at the Manchester Legal Awards for Regulatory team of the year.

We are an ABS and a trading division of Markel UK, a specialist insurer and holder of the coveted Insurance Times #1 spot in the ‘Insurance Times five-star rating report Commercial Lines 2020/2021’; the third year in a row it achieved the top rating.

Despite being an ABS, we have recently adopted a more traditional law firm structure introducing “partner/legal director/senior associate/ associate and solicitor” roles within the firm.

Whilst, in comparison to traditional private practice, we are still able to offer a more flexible system, prioritising expertise and quality of advice, we believe the introduction of a traditional structure via our Career Development Framework (CDF) provides our staff with clear focus and direction in relation to career progression. We also focus on wider commercial business and insurance skills to ensure our lawyers meet the needs of our insurer clients.
