Iain Wilson
Iain is the managing partner of Brett Wilson LLP and a prominent media lawyer, dealing with defamation, privacy, data protection and harassment law. He predominantly acts for politicians, celebrities, HNWIs, corporates, public/trade bodies and professionals. Iain heads up the firm’s media and communications law department, which is well-known for both claims against the traditional media and cases concerning online publication. In respect of the latter, Iain acted in two of the leading cases in this field: The Law Society & Ors v Kordowski [2011] EWHC 3185 (QB) (‘Solicitors from Hell case’) and Tamiz v Google Inc [2013] EWCA Civ 68.  Recent reported successes include Galloway v Ali-Khan [2018] EWHC 780 (QB), Morgan v Times Newspapers Ltd [2019] EWHC 1525 (QB), Suttle v Walker [2019] EWHC 396 (QB), Wright v Ver [2020] EWCA Civ 672, JQL v NTP [2020] EWHC 1349 (QB), Blackledge v Persons Unknown [2021] EWHC 1994, Haviland v The Andrew Lownie Literary Agency Ltd & Anor [2022] EWHC 1688 (QB), Dew v Mills-Nanyn [2022] EWHC 1925 (QB) and Smith v Backhouse [2023] EWCA Civ 874. Iain frequently provides legal commentary in the national and international media and writes for a number of legal publications.

Max Campbell
Max Campbell specialises in reputation and crisis management, acting for both claimants and defendants in libel, privacy, data protection, and harassment claims.  Long-standing clients include C-suite executives, entrepreneurs, journalists, and other lawyers.  Max enjoys higher rights of audience in civil proceedings, and has appeared as a solicitor-advocate before Judges in the High Court. Recent successes include acting for the late barrister Barbara Hewson, who secured libel damages from The Times in December 2020, and acting for the barrister Jane Heybroek in her successful defence of a libel claim brought by the television personalities Rachel Riley and Tracy Ann Oberman. Areas of particular interest include online defamation and harassment, stalking, ‘revenge porn’, and the ‘right to be forgotten’. Max also has a wealth of experience of both criminal and general civil litigation, enabling him to assist people in respect of a wide array of complex and sensitive disputes.

Nick Brett
Partner specialisng in regulatory/disciplinary, criminal and fraud litigation. Particularly noted for his work in defending professionals in disciplinary proceedings and regulatory investigations. Recent instructions include the successful defence of ex-Freshfields partner Ryan Beckwith against his prosecution by the SRA, an SFO investigation into corporate corruption in Brazil and representing an experienced broker in CISI disciplinary proceedings.   His recent portfolio of major fraud cases is substantial and includes the first ever FCA prosecution and the largest ever crypto-currency fraud. Has successfully advised upon and defended numerous Proceeds of Crime Act cases both at first instance and on appeal.

Practitioner with over 15 years' post qualification experience in criminal litigation.  Particular expertise in preparing complex and lengthy fraud cases.  Has recently worked on cases arising out of Operation Hilmar (an allegation of a large scale fraud arising from a failed property investment scheme where the majority of the investors were senior police officers and securing an acquittal on the basis of legal argument), Operation Cotton (representing the main defendant in the largest prosecution undertaken by the FCA), Operation Ryeland (£10 million boiler room ‘land-banking’ fraud), and Operation Boromo (the largest DWP investigation into large volume Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, National Insurance Number and Immigration Fraud).  Other notable cases include; R v Gillespie the largest prosecution for fake pharmaceuticals in Europe, Operation Exhort, the largest ‘cash for crash’ fraud prosecution in the UK,  R v H allegation of murder where manslaughter verdict returned.  R v P serious assault on a child acquittal secured on a nanny accused of shaking a baby causing head injuries.  Sharron regularly acts for individuals accused of sexual offences, including representing doctors and other medical practitioners accused of sexual assaults arising out of their professional duties.  She is currently representing a male accused of 14 separate offences of sexual assault against five separate complainants.
