About

The firm: The firm was originally founded in 2008 by ex City lawyer and managing director Beverley Sunderland, who was concerned that the traditional model of law firms, where work is pushed down to the most junior lawyers, did not provide HR clients with direct access to highly experienced and commercial lawyers in this complex area of the law.

Quickly joined by former colleague and experienced barrister Kevin Charles, the firm has gone from strength to strength, winning Halsbury’s Law Firm of the Year in 2015 and shortlisted for Employment Law Firm of the Year by Personnel Today 2019.

With a somewhat unconventional recruitment policy, Beverley recruited fellow director Barry Ross when he was her opponent in a Tribunal case in 2010. The fact that Barry had persuaded the two wing members to out-vote the legally qualified judge in the case and therefore Beverley lost, simply strengthened her resolve to recruit him, rather than dampened it.

Maria Hoeritzauer and Owen Dear followed, bringing their pragmatic and commercial advice with them.

The firm now boasts eighty years of experience between us and in eleven years has seen four babies born and raised many thousands of pounds for charities.

We are united in our desire to give the best advice to clients, most of whom have loyally instructed us for eleven years.

Types of work undertaken: Experienced employment tribunal and employment appeal tribunal advocates, the team not only advise on the case but will represent the clients at the tribunal hearing or appeal hearing. Our experience of litigation gives us a unique insight into what is and is not important in cases and where particular focus needs to be.

We advise on all aspects of employee relations across a wide range of businesses from education establishments, charities, FTSE 100 companies to Formula 1 racing. No matter what the size of the firm, we are united in one thing – the employment of people.

From complex discrimination and whistleblowing claims, through to TUPE and unfair dismissal, we aim to provide commercial advice, with options, to businesses. The team also has a successful practice enforcing restrictive covenants and confidentiality provisions, obtaining High Court injunctions to prevent former employees from breaching post termination restrictions and/or taking confidential information.
