Oben comprises Oben Law, a Jersey-based law firm specialising in dispute resolution and trusts, and Oben Regulatory, a regulatory consulting firm.

The firm: Oben Law was founded in September 2016 as a firm of Jersey advocates in conjunction with Oben Regulatory Limited. The team at Oben has wide-ranging experience and expertise, providing legal and regulatory solutions tailored to clients’ needs.

Specialising in dispute resolution, the firm’s senior advocates have extensive experience working with a range of clients including trust companies, financial institutions, fiduciary businesses, private clients, family offices, government agencies, global companies and beneficiaries. It aims to provide a high-quality, responsive and personal service that builds solid relationships with clients and their advisers, in order to help them to resolve their problems effectively.

The regulatory team comprises a chartered accountant and individuals previously employed in senior positions at the Jersey Financial Services Commission. Their key objective is to provide a bespoke, focused service to assist financial services businesses in a wide range of matters.

Types of work undertaken: The range of work undertaken by Oben includes litigation; alternative dispute resolution; trust disputes; the exercise of powers and directions and trustee applications; asset tracing and recovery; company, shareholder and partnership disputes; directors’ duties, disqualification and board advice; disciplinary proceedings; disclosure and seizure notices; financial services, portfolio management and mis-selling claims; fraud, and serious and complex crime; funds disputes; injunctions, including freezing, disclosure, and search and seizure; insolvency, cross-border assistance, bankruptcy and liquidations; professional negligence and insurance issues; and regulatory action, including banning and disqualification orders.
