Career

Prior to becoming a director of Oben, Nicola served over 17 years as a regulatory supervisor at the Jersey Financial Services Commission.

Nicola has had a considerable number of years working with businesses that have had deficiencies in systems and controls and where there have been significant conduct risk issues.  She routinely identifies, analyses and advises businesses on strengthening their operating and control environment.   Having a depth of experience handling complex regulatory issues she is able to get to and identify the root cause.  This often means working with board members, addressing issues of  corporate governance as well as working with key persons, compliance departments and operational divisions of a regulated entity.

In dealing with complex and serious regulatory matters Nicola has had dealings with other regulators and law enforcement agencies including Jersey’s Financial Crime Unit, the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, the UK Financial Conduct Authority and the Serious Fraud Office.

Nicola has a good understanding of collective investment funds and regulated fund service businesses (fund administrators, managers etc.) and knowledge of the trust and company business sector gained through experience of the Commission’s heightened supervision, remediation and enforcement processes.  She has also undertaken many regulatory examinations of different regulatory and market sectors – including funds, investment business and also trust and company business.
