Career

Tony advises clients active in the Media and Entertainment sectors, particularly the Film, TV & Music industries.

Tony has many years’ experience of advising on a broad range of transactional and contentious matters with particular emphasis on contractual, commercial and intellectual property matters. His principal focus is with clients who develop, finance, produce and distribute films and other audio-visual content, record companies, music publishers, composers and musicians, screenwriters and other authors, creatives and influencers.

Chambers & Partners have referred to Tony as “Widely skilled …(he) is incredibly knowledgeable on an array of media contracts” and “an excellent source of advice and very approachable” Legal 500 has stated that “he provides the best advice and excellent service” and possesses “excellent knowledge of the entertainment industry”.

Tony is the author of ‘The Filmmakers’ Legal Guide a practical ‘how-to’ book aimed at producers now in its third edition. Hard copies are available here.

For the last 25 years, Tony has taught the legal aspects of audio-visual production at universities and film schools around Europe. He is currently a guest lecturer at the National Film & Television School (Beaconsfield) and for the Raindance Organisation.

Tony is a keen proponent of Alternative Dispute Resolution. He is an accredited mediator and a member of the panel of arbitrators of the Independent Film & Television Alliance.

Tony joined Level from Swan Turton where he was a consultant. Prior to that he spent twenty-two years at Marriott Harrison (fourteen as managing partner) following a six year stint at Cameron Markby Hewitt (now part of CMS).
