Diversity

At Akin, we believe the various perspectives and experiences of our lawyers and business professionals help us achieve exceptional results for our clients and bring important insights into all aspects of the firm.

Firmwide Resource Groups

Open to all of our people, our firmwide resource groups (FRGs) are a natural extension of our commitment to the collegial and collaborative culture our founders envisioned long ago. Formed to encourage an ongoing dialogue of shared interests and concerns between our lawyers and business professionals, our FRGs are a place to forge tighter bonds with colleagues while sharing ideas for more creative and innovative ways to solve complex challenges. Our FRGs include:

  • Women’s FRG
  • Parents & Caregivers FRG
  • Disability & Neurodiversity FRG
  • First Generation/Social Mobility FRG
  • Veterans FRG
  • Asian FRG
  • Black FRG
  • LatinX FRG
  • Middle Eastern & North African FRG
  • Native American & Indigenous People FRG
  • Out & Allied FRG.

Opportunity & Inclusion Councils

Akin has a firmwide Opportunity & Inclusion (O&I) Council and local Opportunity & Inclusion Councils in each U.S. office, London and our Asia offices. Open to all regardless of background, Opportunity & Inclusion Councils offer lawyers and business professionals a chance to forge bonds, while sharing ideas for more creative and innovative ways to solve complex challenges.

Family Friendly Policies

At Akin, we support lawyers through policies and programs that enable them to effectively manage and integrate work, family, and other responsibilities. The firm has a Reduced Work Schedule Policy, which allows lawyers to work reduced schedules and remain on partnership track.

We also have an Agile Work Program that recognizes that agile work arrangements play an important role in providing excellent client service at the highest levels while also providing flexibility for our lawyers.

The firm offers one to one coaching sessions to help new parents successfully manage their journey to parenthood. It has also partnered with Bright Horizons to offer back up care and City Parents, which offers expert support and resources for working parents & caregivers.

Pro bono

Our lawyers defend human rights by representing asylum seekers, victims of trafficking and the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that assist them. Our pro bono matters include public interest litigation, legislative counselling, poverty law and transactions, in each of Akin’s offices.
