Position
Chandri Navarro is senior counsel in the Firm's International Commercial & Trade Practice Group, based in Washington DC. Chandri has extensive experience advising companies, multinationals, trade associations and governments on customs and trade law and policy, trade compliance matters, free trade negotiations, litigation and legislation. Chandri helps clients resolve trade issues before US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of the US Trade Representative, Department of Commerce (DOC), US Congress and the Court of International Trade. Chandri joined Baker McKenzie after leading the US Customs practice as a partner in another global law firm.
Career
Chandri advises clients on complex customs and trade issues in the United States and numerous countries, before foreign trade and customs agencies, routinely guiding clients through problem identification, risk evaluation and efficient resolution strategies. Chandri's advisory services include tariff classification, customs valuation, country of origin determination and labeling, trade preference programs, free trade agreements and comprehensive trade compliance strategies. She also works closely with clients in developing and enhancing forced labor compliance programs, conducting risk assessments and mock audits, as well as in responding to forced labor enforcement actions, including Requests for Information and detentions.
Drawing from her tenure as a US State Department Security-Cleared Industry Adviser during the NAFTA negotiations, Chandri has experience in assisting companies and both US and foreign trade associations in navigating the intricate policy issues in trade negotiations including the nuances of rules of origin, tariff phase-out schedules and accumulation provisions in trade agreements.
