Andy Yeo is a partner of Mayer Brown. He advises on issues involving foreign investment, real estate, employment, corporate finance, general corporate and commercial matters, with particular emphasis on the PRC. Andy acts for international clients in foreign direct investment into China in the form of joint ventures, and wholly foreign-owned enterprises, often involving equity transfers, mergers and acquisitions, or split-offs, covering industries ranging from manufacturing, real estate, and tourism, to information technology, foods and services.He acts for international companies in China in matters involving representative offices, branches, subsidiaries (including under WTO or CEPA scheme), business operations (including retail, wholesale, distribution, and outsourcing), foreign exchange control, dissolution, compliance and financing. He advises developers, funds and other investors on a wide range of aspects in real estate from investment structure, land and building acquisition, establishment of project company, obtaining the required permits and licences, and construction, to post-completion matters including property title application, sales and leasing and property management. He counsels major companies operating in China on a wide range of human resource issues including special contract terms, ESOPs, termination agreements, dismissal, compensation and restrictive covenants. He also assists companies in arranging for and managing labour arbitration or litigation in China where required. Andy frequently gives presentations on employment law in China. He is a Highly Recommended Lawyer according to the PLC Cross-border Labour and Employment Benefits Handbook 2006-07 and the PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook 2007 and 2008. Ian Lewis
Ian Lewis is a partner of Mayer Brown. He has over 28 years experience gained in several Asian jurisdictions and has been based in Beijing since 2002. Prior to that, he has spent time in Vietnam, Thailand and Hong Kong. He is currently Partner-in-Charge of the Beijing office. Ian has significant China commercial, real estate and hospitality experience and has a particular focus on entertainment, attraction development and commercial arrangements relating thereto. Ian is also a regular conference speaker on real estate, hotel and hospitality related topics. Over his years in Asia, Ian has had experience of negotiating large cross-broader transactions and these have included infrastructure projects, joint ventures and other investment arrangements using a broad range of structures, many of which have involved complex regulatory issues. Ian is recognised as Recommended Corporate/M&A Lawyer in the 2012 Editorial of Legal 500 Asia Pacific. Matthew McConkey
Matthew McConkey
Matthew McConkey is a partner at Mayer Brown. He advises clients on a wide range of international trade matters, with particular emphasis on antidumping, anti-subsidy (CVD) and general international trade and import issues. In antidumping and CVD matters, he defends producers and importers against US, EU, Chinese, and Vietnamese unfair trade allegations. Matthew has extensive experience in assisting companies that export from non-market economy countries with respect to the selection of surrogate values and maximizing the impact of various distribution systems on dumping findings. Regarding customs matters, Matthew has broad range of knowledge on all aspects of the US and Chinese import process, including tariff classification, valuation, country of origin determinations, effective use of tariff elimination or reduction programs, and resolution disputes arising from Customs decisions. Matthew enjoys a good reputation for his work, sources highlight his “deep understanding of the law and accurate solutions to problems” – Chambers Asia. He is proud to have been recognized by Chambers Asia-Pacific 2015 for his foreign experience in the Asia-Pacific Region, specifically, China, Indonesia and Vietnam. Matthew has been asked on many occasions for an interview for his knowledge on matters regarding international trade, customs and antidumping. Tom Fu
Tom Fu is a partner of Mayer Brown. He advises on issues arising out of construction projects in China and on the drafting of contract documentation for China projects. Tom is named in the construction chapter of the Who’s Who Legal list (2014-2015) and the Chambers Asia Pacific guide (2012-2018).Tom has extensive experience in handling disputes in China especially those with a cross border element. He is listed on the panels of arbitrators of the Beijing Arbitration Commission and the Chinese Arbitration Association Taipei. He is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators. He has also been appointed by the China International Council for the Promotion of Multinational Corporations (CICPMC) as a committee member of its International Legal Affairs Committee of Experts. Tom also frequently counsels MNCs on investigation work in China.Tom advises on compliance and regulatory matters with a focus on the construction industry and also on environmental issues such as China RoHS, WEEE and carbon emissions trading.
