The team also draws support from our Tokyo, London and Washington, D.C., offices. Where necessary, the firm works closely with qualified PRC counsel in China.

Paul, Weiss opened its Tokyo office in 1987, when Japanese law changed to first permit the establishment of offices by foreign law firms. Staffed with bilingual attorneys, the Tokyo office has been integral to the firm’s involvement in high-profile M&A transactions and some of the largest global securities offerings. In addition, the Tokyo office has accumulated significant experience advising Japanese clients on matters involving litigation and dispute resolution, the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, antitrust law, regulatory investigations and internal investigations.

Lawyers from the Tokyo office have also worked with colleagues from other Paul, Weiss offices in forming various investment fund structures that focus on Japan investments. Regarding Japan law-specific issues, the Tokyo office relies on its close working relationships built over the years with top domestic law firms in Japan.
