Charlotte is a Partner in the Eversheds Sutherland UK tax team, advising on real estate tax and contentious matters.

Charlotte advises on a wide range of tax matters for both public and private sector clients advising on investment structures, joint ventures and direct and indirect real estate acquisitions and disposals. She has particular experience in VAT with a specialist interest in SDLT. She also advises in both the regulated and unregulated funds space, advising on various fund structures (including LPs, JPUTs, REITs, ACSs and others). Her experience extends to contentious matters and she was the lead tax advisor to the appellants in respect of a landmark Pollen Estate SDLT case and acted on the successful appeal to the Court of Appeal resulting in a significant refund of SDLT from HM Revenue & Customs for the client.

Her most recent experience includes working with a client to advise on the tax structuring and implementation necessary to establish a £1.5 billion BTR joint venture with an offshore investment partner in respect of a large scale residential redevelopment in central London building out 650 units. Charlotte also advises M&A and tax insurance underwriters on real estate tax risks as part of our specialist tax warranty & indemnity and tax risk insurance practice. Her clients in this area include Brockwell Capital and Transact Risk Partners LLP.

Charlotte was seconded to the British Property Federation in 2008 and now sits on the British Property Federation’s Tax Committee. She engages on various government consultations and real estate tax lobbying initiatives for the real estate industry, participating in thought-leadership projects for any proposed changes of law and guidance. She has contributed to publications, such as the LexisNexis analysis on the changes to the CIV position in respect of the Non-resident Capital Gains (NRCG) rules, which took effect from 6 April 2019.

Charlotte is also a lecturer at the University of Law, teaching various corporate and property focused taxation courses to junior lawyers.
