Ewan is an principal associate in the Eversheds pensions group in London. He qualified as a solicitor in 2003.

He has advised private sector employers (including several FTSE100 companies), public sector bodies (including Government departments), insurance companies, trade unions, professional bodies and charities and the trustees of their related pension schemes.

Ewan advises on all issues relating to occupational and personal pension schemes, including scheme design, merger and de-merger, interpretation of scheme documents, funding and investment issues and the impact of recent changes in legislation. Ewan has also advised insurance companies and pension providers on the design of their pension products. He has acted as the main legal adviser in relation to a number of high profile situations involving benefit redesign and scheme closure, including the closure of schemes to future accrual.

His experience includes working on the pensions aspects of corporate transactions and re-organisations. This work has included obtaining clearance from the Pensions Regulator and working closely with the Pension Protection Fund on insolvency and restructuring matters.

He is an experienced public speaker who has given presentations to clients and to fellow pensions professionals. He has written articles for newspapers and for the pensions press and has also prepared and delivered training to pension scheme trustees and trustee secretaries.

Ewan is a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers. He is also a member of the Pensions Management Institute and was awarded the associate qualification in 2007. He is qualified to practice in England and Wales, and in Scotland.
